A precursor to the Chameleon, the Toob is a concept instrument on which the Chameleon has been based. Only ten have been crafted so far, each numbered 1 to 10, and more may not be made. The architecture is the same as the 2 legged Chameleon, with G# and Eb keys and thumb-holes (which can also be plugged).
The keys have been cut and formed rather than 3-D printed, and the return mechanisms make use of innovative, elegant and effective torsion springs. Like the Chameleon the body is blue-green anodised.
The Toob came into existence three years before the Chameleon but has remained in the workshop for testing. A small number are now available for sale. All come with a brushed aluminium and see-through case and a ten year Guarantee.
The thumbhole position requires a longer play-in time than the 4 legged Chameleon in order to make the stretch comfortably. With practise it does come however, and offers the added advantage of direct contact with the tone-hole for for the F♮ and B♭ notes, for ornamentation - cuts, rolls and bends. Like the 2 legged Chameleon the Toob is a instrument for bold and intrepid explorers wishing to explore new musical territory.
PLEASE NOTE: These will be available for dispatch from the third week in December 2022.
